To celebrate 25 years of the EXPERIMENTS PLAY READING SERIES, founded by La MaMa Resident Director George Ferencz, the EXPERIMENTALS performance group return to The Club @ La MaMa with a production of H.M. Koutoukas’ MEDEA OF THE LAUNDROMAT, produced in association with Lucille Lortel Theatre.
THE COMPANY

John-Andrew Morrison (JAM) (MEDEA) is pleased to be back at La MaMa. At La MaMa, JAM appeared in “The Tooth Of Crime,” 45th Anniversary season remount, and “The Warzone Is My Bed” with The Experimentals along with many more readings and presentations under the direction of George Ferencz. JAM is an award winning actor based in NYC. For his work in “A Strange Loop” both on Broadway and Off-Broadway, JAM received a TONY Nomination, a Lucille Lortel Award and an OBIE Award. For his work in “Blues for an Alabama Sky” Off Broadway JAM became an Outer Critics Circle Award Honoree. Recently with Classical Theater of Harlem, JAM performed in “Malvolio” and received an AUDELCO Nomination for his performance. He recently presented his solo cabaret show at 54 Below to critical acclaim. He is a co-host of the podcast “5 Questions” with JAMES & JAM (with James Jackson Jr.) He has BA from Brandeis University and an MFA from UC San Diego. Jenne Vath (NURSE) is a founding member of The Experimentals, along with John-Andrew Morrison, Jason Howard, and Sally Lesser. The Experimentals performance group was created by stage director George Ferencz, who was Resident Director at La MaMa from 1981-2021. Jenne has worked in numerous La MaMa productions, workshops, 75 Experiments Readings, and served as Mr. Ferencz’s dramaturg for the “Experiments From The Vault” 2014 season, which celebrated many great La MaMa OOBR playwrights of the1960s-70s, including H.M. Koutoukas. Jenne has also worked with The Ridiculous Theatrical Company, Red Bull Theater, Theater for the New City (incl. “When We’ve Done This Winter” by H.M. Koutoukas), The Living Theatre, HERE Arts Center, Metropolitan Playhouse, Regeneration Theatre, recently participated in Peculicar Works Project’s 30 year celebration, and is a graduate of NYU/TSOA.

Jason Howard (JASON) is proud to be a member of The Experimentals. He is an actor, fight choreographer, writer, director, producer, coder, and driving enthusiast. He has performed with the Public Theater, NYTW, The Workshop Theater, Theater for the New City, La Mama, The Nerve Tank, ManhattanTheatreSource (founding member), the Ontological, EST, Circle Rep, the Ohio and Gideon Media. He has toured internationally doing puppetry with Drama of Works. Co-Adapted/directed “Love That Dog” with NYCity Children’s Theater. Writing highlights: “Divine Providence”, “The Launch”, “The Monkey”. TV/Film highlights: “3rd Watch”, “Solar Vengeance”, “Soldier in the Shadows”, “Pandora Machine”. Podcasts: “Steal the Stars”, “Saturn’s Return.”, “Give Me Away”.

Sally Lesser (COSTUME DESIGN) is an award-winning costume designer of theater, television and dance. Her work has been seen in NYC, regionally and internationally. Notable projects include the original and Off-Broadway productions of “Little Shop of Horrors”; 20 years as Associate Designer on the soap opera, “One Life to Live” (3 EMMY Awards); Co-designer of “Josephine the Short-Necked Giraffe” for Mister Roger’s Neighborhood; and design for over 70 plays directed by her late husband, director George Ferencz. Federico Restrepo (LIGHT / SET DESIGN) is the Artistic Director of Loco7 Dance Puppet Theatre. As a resident artist at La MaMa, he has created and performed over 20 original pieces and toured internationally over the past thirty years. He is a resident puppet designer, choreographer, performer and director at La MaMa, as well as the Producing Director of La MaMa Puppet Festival, a bi-annual event. loco7.org

THE EXPERIMENTALS

The Experiments Play Reading Series, the brainchild of La MaMa Resident Director George Ferencz, began work in the 1998-99 season. The series presented works from La MaMa’s earliest years—known as the “Pushcart Catalog” & played a role in new play development at La MaMa. Long time performing members of the series became known as, The Experimentals.

La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club is dedicated to the artist and all aspects of the theatre. Founded in 1961 by Ellen Stewart, La MaMa is a home for artists of all identities, races, ages, and cultures. At La MaMa, artists are provided the space, support, and creative freedom to explore new forms of expression and to make new work.

Established in the early 1970’s, the La MaMa Archive collects, preserves, and exhibits records of permanent historical value relating to La MaMa and the Off-Off Broadway movement.

The Lucille Lortel Theatre has been in continuous operation as New York’s premiere Off-Broadway Playhouse since 1955.
